Fremont, Washington. 06-19-2010

Today, June 19, was a very cool summer day. The temperatures today were between 50-60 degrees. A friend of mind and I went to the Fremont Festival.

Fremont is a neighborhood of Seattle. Some of the residents have been referring to their neighborhood as “center of the Universe”. Fremont has many technology companies, such as Adobe Systems, Google, Getty Images, etc.

We took a bus to the festival. We first stopped at the Fremont Troll. The Fremont Troll is under the Aurora Bridge. The Troll is 5.5 m high, weights two tons (1814 kg), and is made of steel rebar, wire, and concrete. The piece was created by four local artists. This piece was the winner of a competition sponsored by the Fremont Arts Council in 1990, in part with the goal of rehabilitating the area under the bridge.

Since 1972, Fremont Festival runs each year in June. The highlight of Fremont festival is the Solstice Parade. There are a few simple rules, such as no printed words or logos, no live animals, no motorized vehicles, and no real weapons. There were many bikers in the parade. Those bikers were caught my eyes. Many bikers wore very unique costumes. Many chose to wear body paint suite with very little or they just wore body suite. It is an eye opening.

After the festival, my friend and I walked on top of the Aurora Bridge and saw many houseboats on Lake Union. The 1993 movie called “Sleepless in Seattle” which used Seattle as the story background. The houseboat in the move is located on the Lake Union off Westlake Avenue.

Fremont is a very rich, colorful, and interest neighborhood.
