Taiwan 09-30-2011

It was a hot and muggy day.  My friend and I did not want to go out until late afternoon.

Around 4 o'clock, we went to Cijin (旗津).  It was windy and muggy when we got Cijin.

Cijin is part of Kaohsiung. Cijin Island was called the “Chihou peninsula.” It was the first Chinese settlement in the Kaohsiung area and remains an important location to all the city's residents. On the western side of the city, it is essentially a long, thin sandbar measuring eleven kilometers in length, and only two hundred meters wide. After links to the main city were opened up, including a tunnel that runs under the harbor to the island. In addition, Cijin has an excellent ferry service.

Cijin offers a lot good seafood restaurants.  We had our wonderful seafood dinner in Cijin.

It started to rain as soon as we back to my friend's car after dinner.

Tomorrow, I am heading to Taipei to have many reunions.

Later!

Taiwan 09-29-2011

Before 6:30 in the morning, we were heading to a little port to see sunrise.  It was a beautiful morning with a little cloud.

We then went to a little fish market.  The fishes were so fresh and just out of from fish boats.  Many locals were gathering in the morning and buying fishes.

After breakfast, my friend and I just rode around Makung.   We got in a very small alley and saw the locals drying their fishes on racks.

Last stop in Penghu was Fenggui Cave (風櫃洞).  Fenggui Cave is not just to see, but also listen.  To listen to the waves at Fenggui Cave is a well-known activity in Penghu. Fenggui Cave is an abrasion ditch eroded by the waves and a sea hole at the bottom of the abrasion ditch due to erosion. From the sea hole, there is an opening that goes up to the ground following the joint fissure, so that every time the tide rises, the waves will pour into the abrasion ditch, push the air inside the sea hole, and gush out the opening along the joint fissure carrying some sea water, making a howling sound, just like the noise made by a wind pumper.

In these 4 days in Penghu, we saw the beautiful scenery, clean air, and the small-town locals.

Oh! By the way, the public restrooms are very clean.

Penghu is a very nice place to visit.

Morning, we enjoyed the sunrise from our private beach.  We saw the hotel owner’s dogs playing around the beach.

Around noon, we took a speedy boat back to Makung. In Makung, we rent a motorcycle again.  Motorcycle is a basic transportation for locals.

After lunch, we went to Aimen Beach (隘門沙灘).  Aimen Beach  is formed of coral reef and shell fragments and micro organisms. Aimen Beach is lined up beside Lintou (林投) Beach and next to Lintou Park.  The beach is so beautiful, even the dog can not resist to jump in the water and walk on the beach.

Around 3:30 in the afternoon, we rushed to Kuipi Hill Recreational Area (奎壁山地質公園).  It was because the tide was low.  When the tide is low, we can walk on the bottom of the sea to across.  The period of tide is only about 4 hours.  It was fun to walk and touch the bottom of the sea.  Very interesting!

The Guanyin Pavilion(關音亭) is located in by the shore of Penghu Bay outside the north gate of Makung City. This is a fine spot to gaze at the ocean scenery and watch the setting sun.

Yes.  The sunset was so beautiful!  It was amazing!

Taiwan 09-27--011

Early morning, we jumped on a ferry from Makung (馬公) to Wangan (望安).

After arrived Wangan, we first tried to find a place to stay.  Luckily, through the owner of B & B that we stay in Makung, we got a connection in Wangan. 30 minutes later, we rent a little beach house with a private beach and a motorcycle.

Wangan is one of few places that green turtles (綠蠵龜) visit more often and more steady to lay eggs.  We wanted to go to Green Turtle Tourism and Conservation Center.  Unfortunately, it was closed.

Wangankou Beach (網垵口沙灘) is called the "Dream Beach" because of its soft white sand accompanied by clear blue ocean. Whenever the tide rises, the clean white beach will enter the clear blue ocean. The beach is also a place green turtles migrate back to.

Our last stop of the day was Chungshe Old Hua Family Residence (花宅古厝). Originally named "Flower House" (花宅), the legend says that when this village was firstly established, their ancestors looked at the local terrain, and discovered that the mountains surrounding the place were just like lotus petals. Therefore, they firstly named the land around "the heart of the flower" (山仔尾頂, Shanziweiding) and built a house, thus naming it "Flower House", also meaning that the house that was built at the heart of the flower. The village is filled with ancient houses that are built of coral. There were originally over 80 sanheyuan (三合院, old three-section compound house), and now only about 50 of them are still well-preserved.

On the way back to our hotel, we saw lots of cows.  My friend and I were so excited to see cows!  Ha! City Girls!

We decided to stay in our hotel and enjoy our private beach in the afternoon.  However, there was a price to pay  … My skins became ... very dark.  I am like a panda!
