Road Trip - Florence 08-13-2013

We left Astoria around 9:00 in the morning and drove Highway 101 South toward Florence.

Our first stop was Cannon Beach.  A beach offers beautiful sand beach, specular ocean view, and amazing puffins.  Yes!  Puffins.  I saw puffins.  Unfortunately, I was not able to take a picture of puffins.

Our second stop was Tillamook Cheese factory.  In the factory, we saw how the cheese were made and we also tasted different types of the cheese.

Our third stop was Yaquina Head Light House. Yaquina Head Light Station was built in 1872 and operated by the U.S. Lighthouse Service. The Lighthouse Service was abolished in 1939, at which time the U.S. Coast Guard took over operations.

The last stop before Florence, we stopped at Sea Lions Cave.  Unfortunately, no sea lion was in the cave today.  The sea lions were all out of the cave and sun tanning under the beautiful Oregon’s August sun.

Finally, we arrived at our hotel in Florence around 5:30 pm.  Florence is a seaside community located on the Oregon coast along Highway 101.  It is an old mill town which has a population of over 6,200.  Although, Florence is a small town, believe it or not, Florence has its own airport in town.

My friend and I stayed in Florence in order to enjoy the beauty and the slower pace of the seaside town.  The fresh ocean air and sand beach specially made us so relaxed.
