We
left the beach hotel where we stayed around 8:00 am. Our planed to visit Oregon Cave
National Monument today.
On
the way to Oregon Caves National Monument, we stopped by the Dean Creek Elk Viewing
Area. At the viewing area, we did not
see any elk. However, we saw a herd of
about 50 Roosevelt elk at one of the roadside viewing area on the Highway 138.
We
arrived at Grants Pass around 11:30 am to have early lunch. Grants
Pass is located on Interstate 5, northwest of Medford. The population of Grants Pass is about
35,000.
After lunch, we drove
about 47 miles to Oregon Cave Monument.
Oregon Caves National Monument
is located in the northern Siskiyou Mountains of Oregon
in the United States.
The caves formed as
rainwater from the forest above dissolved the surrounding marble and created
one of the few marble caves in the world.
Inside the cave, the
temperature is about 44 degree, and there is about 500 stairs. We were up and down the stairs in the cave
with very little light. The lowest point in the cave is about 210 meters under
the ground. The tour is very educational
and the cave is amazing.
