Road Trip - Astoria 08-12-2013

We drove 181 miles from Seattle via Freeway I-5 to Longview, WA and changed to Highway 432 and 30 to Astoria, OR.

Astoria is a little town with 10,000 people located near the mouth of the Columbia River.

Prior to 1990, Astoria’s economy was on fishing, fish processing, and lumber. Today, tourism, art, and light manufacturing are main economic activities of the city.   Astoria is a port for cruise ship, such as the cruise from Vancouver to New York, or the cruise Vancouver to San Francisco.

To get around Astoria, visitors can walk, bike, or take trolley.

We chose to walk. After we walked back to hotel, we asked where we can see sea lions.  The front desk person told us it is the other side of the town and pointed the location on the map.  She also suggested that we better bike to there.  So, we rode the bike all the way to the side of the town and saw the sea lions gathering around the port.

Astoria is a nice little sea port town.
