Taiwan—Taipei 2016-10-22

Taipei City Hakka Cultural Park (臺北客家主題公園) is very close to where I stay in Taipei.  It has a complete combination of Hakka themed areas include Cross-Dike Platform, Ecosystem Trench, Food Court, Hakka Theater, Rural Experience Zone, etc.

The park is near the bike station where people can rent bikes.  And the bike trails are next to the park.  I did not rent a bike, I walked from the park to the river trails.

Taipei City Hakka Cultural Park is next to the riverside parks.  Tamsui river has many riverside parks and covered many districts.  It was a hot and humanity day.  However, there were many people riding bikes, jogging, walking, etc.

After walking in the Tamsui riverside parks, I headed to a town called Tamsui. Tamsui is a sea-side district in New Taipei.  Tamsui is named after Tamsui River, it means "fresh water". Tamsui is a popular site for viewing the sun setting in.  Tamsui also has many historical sites.  Fort Santo Domingo (紅毛城) is an example.

The Spanish arrived in the area of Tamsui in the 17th century, and established the first major non-aboriginal settlement comprising the town and mission of Santo Domingo. The Spanish had abandoned their settlement in Tamsui in, and the Spanish were expelled from Taiwan by the Dutch in 1641.  Then, the Dutch built a new fort named, Fort Anthonio.  It is today known as Angmo Siaa (紅毛城).
